Tonight and Tomorrow Morning
This nearly forgotten low-budget darling follows the night of a lonely woman who works as a dentist as she decides to break her daily doldrums and spend the night out for a change. Over the course of one night in East Berlin, she encounters several characters outside of her typical experience. Whimsical and touching, Tonight and Tomorrow Morning is a sensitive love letter to a metropolis and the humble citizens who occupy it. Remarkably banned by officials for its “negative” depiction of East Berlin, Dietmar Hochmuth’s graduation thesis film weaves together two short stories by Helga Schubert into a sentimental ode to the beauty of quotidian nights and weekends.
